Police Cpl. James Dodson Accused Of Child Sex Crimes In PA

According to his boss, a Maryland police officer who has been accused with several child sex offenses in Pennsylvania would have his badge permanently revoked if the charges are upheld.

A months-long investigation by Pennsylvania State Police into claims of child exploitation has resulted in four felony charges against Cpl. James Dodson, a sworn member of the Frederick Police Department.

The allegations are a triple betrayal of the victim, every person who relies us to protect them, and every member of our agency and profession, Chief Jason Lando told the public in a video message on Monday, June 30.

Police in Pennsylvania claim that Dodson was accused with:

  • Two counts of solicitation of a minor;
  • One count of possession of child pornography;
  • One count of criminal use of a communication facility.

According to Frederick Police, the inquiry started in August 2024 when a worker informed command officials about Dodson’s potential wrongdoing.

The Pennsylvania State Police were notified of the matter right away.

According to officials, Dodson’s badge, duty weapon, and car were taken, and his police privileges were stopped.

According to Lando, this emblem represents the faith the community has in us. The right to wear the badge is violated when such trust is betrayed.

The Montgomery County Police Department carried out an independent internal investigation after the Frederick Police Department filed criminal charges.

That probe is still in use.

In his remarks, Lando stated, “Let me be clear.” An atrocity is committed by anyone who takes advantage of a child. The treachery is quadrupled when that individual is wearing a police badge. The badge that Mr. Dodson previously wore will never again represent this department or this city if these accusations are confirmed.

Lando called such incidents a “shadow cast by one individual” and underlined his support for the cops who keep their oath. A good cop is more hated than a corrupt one.

“To the men and women of the Frederick Police Department: thank you,” stated the officer. “I am confident that the great majority of you serve honorably, keep your word, and gain the confidence of this community on a daily basis. I value the job you do, particularly during times like this.

On Thursday, July 3, at 4:00 p.m., a press conference will take place outside the Frederick Police Headquarters, located at 100 W. Patrick Street.

“To our community and anyone hearing this news: we know how painful and damaging these types of situations are,” Lando said.

“People with integrity should be protecting you. The only officers I will have in our agency are those who are professional and compassionate.

The Adams County District Attorney and the Pennsylvania State Police are still in charge of the criminal prosecution.
