Kathy Beatty Cold Case Reexamined After 50 Years In Maryland

In the hopes that someone would finally speak forward, detectives are restating a serious vow given to a dying mother.

Beatty, Kathy

Cold case investigators are urging the public for assistance fifty years after 15-year-old Kathy Beatty was discovered dead and severely beaten in a Montgomery County forest, and they aren’t letting up.

According to authorities, Beatty was discovered by her sister the following day in a forested area behind the old K-Mart in Aspen Hill after being reported missing on July 24, 1975.

She had been battered with a rock to the head and sexually raped. She never regained consciousness and passed away in the hospital a week later.

On Friday, July 25, the 50th anniversary of the discovery, Montgomery County Police announced that no suspect has ever been named.

However, this case is personal to detectives.

According to authorities, Kathy spoke with cold case investigators prior to her mother’s death and urged them to guarantee that justice would be served for her daughter. Detectives are dedicated to keeping that promise for Kathy’s surviving family members, even though she passed away without knowing who was to blame.

A podcast about Beatty’s passing was also made public by the agency.

Teenagers in the 1970s were familiar with the area where Kathy was discovered because the rocks there became a somber landmark in a case that has plagued the county for many generations.

In an effort to rekindle public interest and tell Kathy’s tale to a younger audience, police produced a Cold Case podcast exclusively about her case to commemorate the milestone anniversary.

There is a $10,000 prize for information that results in an arrest. It is possible for tipsters to stay anonymous.
