On Wednesday, June 25, just after 7:25 a.m., police were called to the Residence Inn by Marriott on Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda. They discovered a young mother and two children sleeping on the hotel’s patio.
According to the agency on Thursday, the kids did not react or interact with the cops while wearing filthy clothes. Officers tried to get in touch with Child Protective Services and asked for the Mobile Crisis Team out of concern for their well-being.
Officers took all three to a hospital for assessment as the temperature rose and worries increased. After learning that the two girls, aged six and ten, had been reported missing in Missouri, investigators were able to identify the woman as their mother.
The father told authorities that his 36-year-old wife and daughters had been missing for years, but because the family was last seen in Florida, the case was never added to the National Crime Information Center’s (NCIC) database.
CPS and detectives from Montgomery County came to the hospital to help. According to authorities, the father went to Maryland and met up with his daughters.
The inquiry is still under progress.
