According to authorities, a man from Maryland is in jail after reportedly shooting someone many times during a furious altercation that lasted the entire night.

Around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 27, Hagerstown Police Department officers were called to the 200 block of W. Franklin Street in response to a complaint of gunfire.

According to a statement from HPD, officers were able to identify the culprit from city security footage, track him down, and arrest him in a matter of minutes.

According to authorities, the 38-year-old suspect, Charles Anthony Rodgers, was apprehended after being discovered outside his residence in the 200 block of W. Franklin.

Police said they found a Smith & Wesson handgun with ammunition in.45 caliber during a search of his flat. Investigators observed that the serial number on the weapon had been destroyed.

According to detectives, Rodgers and another man got into a verbal altercation that led to the event. According to the authorities, Rodgers then pointed the gun toward the victim and fired several shots.

Nobody was hit.

Rodgers was taken to the Washington County Detention Center and is being charged with several offenses, such as:

  • Attempted second-degree murder;
  • First- and second-degree assault;
  • Reckless endangerment;
  • Handgun on person;
  • Use of a firearm in a felony violent crime;
  • Knowingly altering a firearm ID number.

He is being detained until he appears in court again.
