On Friday, August 1, the Derry Township Police Department declared that the July 24 event, which occurred just before 6:46 p.m., was not related to any criminal activity.

A thorough physical inspection of the incident, witness and employee statements, and video surveillance were all part of the review, which was carried out in collaboration with Hersheypark and the Dauphin County Coroner’s Office. The coroner’s official determination that an unintentional freshwater drowning was the cause and manner of death was validated by investigators.

According to officials, the wave pool’s swimmer capacity was well below its maximum, and Hersheypark’s safety regulations were respected. When Sophia was spotted in difficulty, lifeguards and onlookers rushed to her aid, starting rescue and resuscitation procedures.

According to the release, the Derry Township Police Department offers its deepest sympathies to Sophia’s family and friends, as well as the Bhutanese community, during this trying time, along with the witnesses, Hersheypark employees, and first responders who tried to save her.

To assist Sophia’s family with burial expenses and continuing care, an AGoFundMe campaign has been started.
