Holy CARP! Baby Hippo-Sized Fish Sets Record At Lake Zoar

A huge common carp that was captured in Lake Zoar is making headlines and breaking records.

Norbert Samok and his 44.8-inch, 58.05-pound carp from Lake Zoar.

On June 21, Norbert Samok caught a carp weighing 58.05 pounds and measuring 44.8 inches. This carp surpassed the previous Connecticut state record by over 13 pounds.

Only a few weeks had passed since Rafal Wlazo’s 45.8-pound carp set the previous record when the catch occurred. From one champion to another, Wlazo cheered and took pictures as he watched Samok’s haul in person!

Online comparisons of the fish’s size were hilarious and included the phrase “Holy CARP” (or “is it a baby hippo?”). Local fishermen are now racing to the lake in the hopes that lightning will hit twice.

Although the new record has not yet been certified by state officials, it is obvious that this beast is already the subject of local mythology.
