ICE Seen Operating In Beacon: Mayor Says City Had No Prior Warning

Officials acknowledged that federal immigration agents carried out an operation in a city in Dutchess County.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the United States

Residents of the City of Beacon reported US Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity earlier in the day, according to city officials, and the activity took place on Friday, June 20.

In a response, Mayor Lee Kyriacou affirmed the reports and stressed that the city was not involved in the operation.

“I want to make clear that at no time leading up to this incident did City staff, including our Police Department, have any notice of or involvement in ICE operations,” stated Kyriacou.

Later, the FBI and the city’s police chief verified that an ICE operation did indeed occur in Beacon on Friday morning.

According to officials, they do not yet know who was arrested or detained, what charges were brought against them, or whether a court order was obtained. The mayor also stated that the city is unsure of the individual’s current location.

“As a city, we remain committed to our safe, inclusive community policy, to preserving rights enshrined in the US Constitution, and to avoiding any policies which engender fear among law-abiding families,” stated Kyriacou.

More information is being aggressively sought by the Beacon Police Department.
