K9 Sniffs Out Stolen Gun On Taconic Parkway In Yorktown: Duo Arrested, Police Say
Troopers found a stolen, loaded pistol inside a Mercedes-Benz during a routine traffic stop on the Taconic State Parkway in Northern Westchester, which escalated into a criminal gun bust, according to authorities.
According to investigators, troopers discovered this loaded Colt MK IV Series 70 semi-automatic weapon inside the vehicle.
According to New York State Police on Thursday, June 26, troopers pulled over a 2014 Mercedes automobile heading north on Wednesday, June 25, in the town of Yorktown, for traffic infractions.
According to authorities, the front-seat passenger was identified as Jiovanni D. Atherton, 24, of the Bronx, and the driver was identified as Jack L. Thomas, 38, of Poughkeepsie.
State Police K9 Jett was sent in shortly after the car was pulled over to sniff out the outside of the vehicle and ultimately provided a positive narcotics alert. Troopers searched the vehicle as a result.
Police claimed to have discovered a loaded Colt MK IV Series 70 semi-automatic handgun inside, which they later learned had been reported stolen from Vermont.
After being arrested, the two males were accused with both criminal possession of stolen property and criminal possession of a weapon. Both of them are currently being held for arraignment.
