After entering a guilty plea to stalking a lady in Bensalem, Matthew John Bustin, 34, was given a sentence in Bucks County that included seven years of probation and nine to 23 months in county jail. Until he completes the H.O.P.E. substance addiction treatment program, he is not eligible for parole.

Bensalem Stalking Case

Brittney Kern, the deputy district attorney, gave a chronology that demonstrated how Bustin started investigating the Bensalem victim before ever interacting with her. They communicated for six weeks after connecting on a dating service until she blocked him due to his inconsistent conduct.

When the woman returned from her vacation in April 2024, her apartment was dark, the internet was unplugged, the electricity had been turned off, her security camera was facing the wall, and a message had been concealed in her pillows.

In court, she stated, “I genuinely thought there was someone in my apartment with me.” This psychological game was horrible.

That night, she slept with a knife in the kitchen, reported it to the police the following day, and left two days later. Later, she discovered a GPS tracker beneath her car, and surveillance footage revealed Bustin lying beneath it to connect it while she was at work. At least nine times, at the very moment her power went off, his phone pings her home and workplace.

Her family was affected financially and emotionally as they assisted her in finding the tracker, moving, and going to court. Noting that Bustin contacted her soon after being charged in a stalking case, the victim described the timing of his actions as troubling.

Bethlehem & Lehigh County Case

The bustin stalking spree started in Bethlehem, Lehigh County, months earlier in December 2023. When another woman discovered a GPS unit on her car, Bustin acknowledged that he had planted it.

He had made multiple attempts to reach her on Instagram using different aliases, such as Megan and Meg. Bustin pushed the situation after she was ignored, sending pornographic candies, laying flowers on her car, and going up to her in person at her apartment complex to get her number.

The woman, who was employed at a nearby hospital, discovered the unwanted presents at home and at work. After being taken into custody by Bethlehem police, Bustin was given a sentence of five to twenty-four months in prison and three years of probation in February 2025.

Criminal History & Additional Charges

Additionally, Bustin was found guilty in Lehigh County in 2018 of loitering and prowling outside the house of another ex-girlfriend. He was placed on probation for a whole year.

Due to the Bensalem case, he is still awaiting trial in Bucks County on charges of burglary, stalking, criminal trespass, and harassment. He was detained on 10% of $2 million bail after being arrested on June 1, 2024.

As part of his Bucks County sentencing, Bustin was ordered to pay $1,334.60 in restitution, meet with mental health and substance addiction requirements, and refrain from utilizing social media and communication with the victim.
