Crews were sent out earlier in the day in response to reports of a car fire in the neighborhood, according to UAFD. EMS, Fire Police 23, Upper Allen Police, and Chief 1, Squad 23 arrived on the site.
According to officials, firefighters discovered that a lithium-ion battery from a backpack vacuum had detonated inside the car, causing the fire. The car’s interior suffered severe damage as a result of the fire.
The incident is being used by authorities as a warning about the dangers that overheated or damaged lithium-ion batteries offer. “This is a good reminder to always handle and store lithium-ion batteries safely,” said the UAFD.
Responding workers were commended by UAFD for their prompt action in maintaining control of the situation.
