According to Mahwah Police Lt. Michael Blondin, Jamie Morella of Pequannock was the suspect who took $50, $120, $320, and $630 from wallets that were left in lockers at the Powerhouse Gym in Mahwah.

Morella was identified as a suspect by Detective Christopher Fasulo, who oversaw the investigation and collaborated with the gym staff. On Monday, July 28, he was taken into custody in Montclair.

After being taken back to Mahwah Police Headquarters, Morella was accused with four theft-related offenses. He was set free while the Superior Court heard his case.

Anyone who thinks they might have been defrauded in the same way is urged by authorities to contact Detective Fasulo at 201-529-1000, extension 222.

Gym patrons are advised by the Mahwah Police Department to exercise caution and refrain from leaving valuables in public lockers unattended.
