Man Abducts Girlfriend During Dispute, Gets Released After Arrest In Frederick County: Sheriff

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office reports that a man who was charged with kidnapping his girlfriend following a domestic argument in Maryland was taken into custody and later freed.

Fyke, Devan Marshall

Following a 911 call at approximately 11 p.m. on Monday, June 16, indicating a potential abduction in action close to New Design Road, Devan Marshall Fyke, 32, of Charlestown, West Virginia, was placed under arrest, according to the department.

The caller informed dispatchers that she was trying to follow the car after her sister had just been kidnapped by a male.

Deputies discovered throughout the inquiry that the victim and Fyke had been involved in a domestic argument inside a car.

During the encounter, he allegedly started driving erratically, perhaps to frighten his girlfriend.

According to investigators, she made several attempts to get out of the car but was forcibly detained by Fyke.

The sheriff’s office claims that Fyke also stole the woman’s phone and tossed it out the window.

Eventually, he released the victim from the car close to English Muffin Way and Buckeystown Pike.

The woman contacted for assistance after borrowing a phone from a bystander. Shortly after, deputies found her and, at her request, took her to the hospital, according to the agency.

Deputies discovered Fyke at a Sheetz in Brunswick shortly after, verified that he was under arrest for a separate incident, and took him into custody.

Fyke was accused of:

  • Second-degree assault;
  • False imprisonment;
  • Theft ($100 $1,500);
  • Malicious destruction of property (less than $1,000).

Officials said that after being booked into the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, he was eventually released on his own recognizance.

The sheriff’s office is still investigating the event.
