Man Charged With Stealing Check Meant For Contractor Building Wilton Police HQ

Theft of a cheque meant for a construction business constructing a new police headquarters in Connecticut has led to the arrest and charging of a man from New York.

Segui Davis

Bronx resident Davis Segui, 62, is accused of identity theft and first-degree larceny. According to Wilton police, he is being held on a $1 million bond.

The dispute started when the contractor for the police headquarters renovation, A. Secondino & Son Inc., received a cheque from Wilton town officials. According to authorities, the amount was transferred into what seemed to be a legal account, but the Branford company never got it.

An inquiry that lasted more than a year was started by Wilton police. According to police, detectives eventually discovered that the check had been put into a bank account that had been unlawfully formed in the contractor’s name.

The bank’s security footage showed a man opening the account and depositing the stolen check with a forged ID. Police said that man was recognized as Segui.

Wilton police followed Segui to New York with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service. He willingly returned to Connecticut to face accusations, waiving extradition.

The public is very concerned about cases like these, where a community is defrauded, according to Wilton Police Chief Tom Conlan. I’m happy that we were able to bring this criminal to justice.

Segui is also dealing with more legal issues. According to authorities, he was wanted for not showing up for separate court appearances in Fairfield and Orange.

According to officials, an extra $35,000 bond was posted in relation to the charges.

The inquiry is still under progress.
