Man Flees Officers On Off-Road Vehicle At High Speed In Red Hook: Police

A 36-year-old man is being charged with several offenses after police claim he drove an unauthorized off-road vehicle in Dutchess County and led cops on a high-speed chase through village streets and woodland areas.

According to authorities, the UTV driver ran away into Red Hook’s Forest Park complex before vanishing into the woods.

The Red Hook Police Department said on Saturday, July 26 that the incident started at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23 when an officer observed a side-by-side utility task vehicle (UTV) being driven illegally on West Market Street in the Village of Red Hook.

According to authorities, the driver ran southbound on Route 9G at a high pace after the officer tried to pull over him. After then, the UTV swerved into the Forest Park subdivision before vanishing into the surrounding wild areas.

Officers conducting a follow-up investigation found the UTV and its driver at a Red Hook residence on Thursday, July 24.

Dirk J. Depuy, the 36-year-old driver, was apprehended without any problems. According to authorities, he is accused of dangerous driving and illegally escaping a police officer in a car.

With a court appearance planned for a later time, Depuy was processed and discharged.
