Man Found Dead After Driver Reports Hitting ‘Unknown Object’ On I-87 In Clarkstown: Police
After a driver reported damage to their vehicle from colliding with an unidentified item, police are looking into the death of a man who was discovered dead near Interstate 87 in Rockland County.

According to New York State Police, the incident started at 1:10 a.m. on Friday, August 15, when troopers arrived at a damaged car close to Exit 6 of the southbound Palisades Interstate Parkway in Clarkstown.
Officers discovered a 2007 Honda Civic with significant damage to the windshield, hood, and front passenger side bumper. Before proceeding onto the Palisades Parkway, where his car got inoperable, the driver, a 24-year-old Sparkill resident, told troopers he had been traveling north on I-87 when he collided with an unidentified object.
Police found a man’s body under a guiderail on the right shoulder of I-87 northbound during the course of the investigation. Despite their best efforts, Spring Valley EMS was unable to revive him. Until his family is notified, his identity is being kept secret.
After being evaluated at Nyack Hospital, the motorist engaged in the collision was brought to the State Police barracks in Haverstraw for additional interrogation.
Assistance was provided by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Collision Reconstruction Unit.
As of Friday afternoon, the inquiry is still underway and no charges have been brought.
