Police say they caught a Bronx man with a loaded gun during a traffic stop on the New York State Thruway in Westchester County, and he is currently in jail.

According to the authorities, this loaded Taurus G2C 9mm handgun was discovered during the Yonkers traffic check.

On Friday, June 27, New York State Police said that troopers stopped a gray 2021 Hyundai Elantra for vehicle and traffic infractions on Interstate 87 in Yonkers at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25.

Police started inspecting the vehicle during the stop because they thought the driver might be intoxicated. They allegedly found a loaded Taurus G2C 9mm handgun and a large-capacity magazine inside the car instead of drugs or alcohol, according to the police.

Following his arrest, Jerico Vega, the driver, was charged with two felonies: criminal possession of a large-capacity feeding device and criminal possession of a weapon.

After being brought to Yonkers City Court, Vega was ordered by the judge to be detained at the Westchester County Jail on either a $25,000 bond or $2,500 cash bail. He is scheduled to return to court for a hearing on Tuesday, July 1 at 3 p.m.
