Benjamin Dewees Accused Of Making Threats At Children’s Camp
Authorities claim that a guy is in jail after he attacked two deputies who were attempting to arrest him after threatening widespread violence at a children’s camp on Tuesday.

According to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, Benjamin Dewees, 28, of Emmitsburg, made the threats at Emmitsburg Elementary School, where the camp was being conducted, on July 29 at approximately 10:11 a.m.
According to investigators, personnel and children were taken inside the building right away after it was put on lockdown for safety reasons.
According to the sheriff’s office, Dewees was not prepared to go down when deputies found him a short while later on West Main Street in Emmitsburg.
The sheriff’s office said that Dewees was subsequently freed after assaulting two deputies and sending one to the hospital as they tried to take him into custody.
The other one was unharmed.
According to officials, Dewees acknowledged making threatening remarks “consistent with those reported by witnesses” in a follow-up interrogation.
Dewees was taken into custody and accused of:
- Threat of mass violence;
- Two counts of second-degree assault;
- Disturbing the peace/disorderly conduct;
- Disturbing the peace loud noise;
- Attempt to disturb operations at a school;
- Disorderly conduct.
After being hauled into custody, he is currently being held without bond at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.
