Following reports of dozens of them melting or catching fire, Walmart and Amazon are recalling over 630,000 tiny freezers.
In July 2025, Curtis International recalled two varieties of tiny refrigerators under the Frigidaire brand.
On Thursday, July 24, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said that Curtis International was recalling approximately 634,000 compact refrigerators under the Frigidaire brand. There is a significant risk of fire and burns because the internal electrical components in the refrigerators have the potential to short circuit and ignite the plastic housing.
Twenty-six people have reported the micro fridges “smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating, and catching fire.” According to the CPSC, the fires resulted in over $700,000 in property damage and two cases of smoke inhalation.
Between January 2020 and December 2023, four types of the recalled refrigerators were offered for sale for between $36 and $40. Black, blue, green, white, yellow, red, pink, and silver were among the hues that were offered.
The refrigerators’ owners should unplug them and cease using them right away. Consumers are required to cut the power cord, permanently label “recall” on the refrigerator door, and dispose of the unit in accordance with local regulations.
