The collision occurred at approximately 8:47 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, close to the.8-mile marker. Investigators claim that a 2023 Ford Maverick pickup made a U-turn and headed north using an emergency turnaround as it was moving south in traffic connected to construction. According to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, a motorcycle approaching I-91 North was unable to stop in time and collided with the vehicle.

There was nothing the rider could do to prevent the collision, according to State Police, as a truck veered into the motorcycle’s path.

One of the first to arrive was a trooper from the Hampden District Attorney’s Office who was in route to a detail. According to the prosecutor’s office, he tried CPR on the motorcyclist, but the rider passed away at the spot.

His identity is still unknown. The event is still being investigated, but it’s unclear if officials have brought charges.

The pickup’s two passengers were transported to Baystate Medical Center. They have not disclosed their terms to the public.

Authorities were informed by several witnesses that the pickup made a U-turn in the emergency lane, which is normally only used by emergency vehicles and police.

Investigations into the crash are still ongoing.

Many local drivers have been spooked by the accident, which closed down portions of the roadway for hours. Drivers are being warned by police not to turn around in emergency lanes.
