New London Resident Seriously Hurt, Firefighter Injured In 2-Family House Fire

Firefighters had to rush into a two-family home in New London to rescue a trapped person as a fast-moving fire tore through it.

On Thursday morning, July 3, firemen from New London combat a fire at a house on Shaw Street.

On Thursday, July 3, at approximately 9:42 a.m., a police officer on patrol noticed smoke rising from the second floor of a two-and-a-half-story residence on Shaw Street, prompting New London personnel to respond to the scene. Heavy smoke and flames were streaming from the upstairs windows when firefighters arrived.

With severe injuries, the victim was sent to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

During the rescue, a firefighter was also injured. According to the department, the firefighter received treated at a hospital before being released.

According to firefighters, the fire was contained to the apartment on the second story.

Three individuals—two first-floor renters and the rescued resident—are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

Investigators are attempting to determine the cause of the fire.
