NJ Election Meeting ‘Zoom Bombed’ With Hateful Rhetoric, Pornographic Images
On Thursday, July 24, hackers broke into a virtual New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission meeting and broadcast vile messages, sending the commission into disarray.
Jack Ciattarelli and Mikie Sherrill
The purpose of the commission’s meeting was to choose sponsors for one debate between the candidates for lieutenant governor and two gubernatorial debates between Democratic nominee Rep. Mickie Sherrill and her opponent, Republican nominee Jack Ciattrelli.
According to Politico, sirens, ringtones, and explosions broke up the presentation by WABC-TV New York, WPVI-TV Philadelphia, and the Rutgers Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy.
Politico claimed that when a song that repeated the n-word started to play, pornographic pictures and a swastika started to appear on viewers’ screens. And thus the gathering came to an end.
ELEC head Thomas Prol called the hacking of the meeting a “shocking breach of public trust” and promised that those responsible would face legal action.
Prol posted on social media, saying, “I have asked the offices of the NJ Governor and NJ Attorney General to open an investigation.” “They assigned their best investigators to look into the hack. I address those in charge on behalf of my fellow commissioners and myself: You will not sabotage New Jersey’s democracy. We’ll track you down and bring charges.
According to Prol, “safeguards” were put in place and the meeting was rescheduled for Tuesday, July 29 at 10 a.m.
