According to investigators, a confrontation broke out in the vicinity after the Pride march, and the shooting took place outside 3 Sheridan Square close to the Stonewall Inn on Sunday, June 29, at approximately 10:15 p.m.
The teen from New Jersey was an innocent bystander who was unrelated to the altercation or the shooter, according to the police.
According to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, “by some miracle that male is not shot, but those rounds traveled down range and struck our 17-year-old victim in her left thigh.” The bullet enters her right leg after passing through her left.
The victim is a 17-year-old girl from New Jersey who is on vacation. According to Kenny, she had nothing to do with the gunman or the earlier altercation that was going on. She was a completely innocent bystander who was in New York City to celebrate the Pride parade.
According to authorities, the 17-year-old was taken in stable condition to Northwell Greenwich Village Hospital.
Meanwhile, EMS transported the 16-year-old victim, who was shot in the head, to Bellevue Hospital, where she is now in serious condition.
No one has been taken into custody. According to the NYPD, the inquiry is still active.
