Officer Kelsey Fitzsimmons Shot By Police Serving Order

Following a call to her residence over a restraining order, a fellow officer shot a North Andover police officer, who is currently recuperating in the hospital.

Kelsey Fitzsimmons, an officer

On Monday, June 30, three of Officer Kelsey Fitzsimmons’s coworkers, including a supervisor, visited her home on Phillips Brooks Road in North Andover while she was off duty to serve her with a restraining order that had been granted by the court, according to police. Authorities say something went wrong at that point.

According to CBS Boston, Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker stated at a press conference that “an armed confrontation took place when one of the officers was escorting Ms. Fitzsimmons during the service of the court order.” “As a result of that armed confrontation, one of the responding officers discharged their weapon, which struck Ms. Fitzsimmons once.”

A medical chopper took her to a hospital in Boston. Her health was described as stable as of Tuesday morning. Tucker would to comment on whether she was armed at the time of the shooting or where it occurred.

He stated that according to the article, “we’re waiting to speak on the very granular details until we get the interviews back from our state police detectives who are speaking with the North Andover officers that were involved.”

No name has been given to the cop who fired the shot. However, according to Tucker, the officer has been with the force for almost 20 years.

Fitzsimmons has been employed for approximately eighteen months at the North Andover Police Department. She was already on administrative leave when the shooting occurred. Police Chief Charles Gray referred to her recent request for the return of her service firearm as a personnel matter and declined to comment.

Fitzsimmons gave birth in February, according to court documents, the New York Post said. Emergency personnel arrived at her house one month later for what was described as a mental health issue. According to the report, she was admitted to the hospital for 12 hours, given a postpartum depression diagnosis, and surrendered her firearm.

Later, her license to carry was restored, and she was given the all-clear to resume her duties. However, her fianc applied for a restraining order on Monday. Tucker said he feared for the child’s welfare, alleged she threatened to kidnap their infant, and said she slapped him.

According to Chief Gray, his department is keeping an eye on everyone’s welfare.

According to CBS, he stated, “We’re worried about all the officers, both on and off duty, and we’re just going to monitor and hopefully get some results.”

The inquiry is still ongoing, according to authorities.

There are numerous interviews that need to be completed. There are numerous components that need to be assembled. According to Tucker, there are many questions that still need to be answered. However, for the time being, we want to be as open and honest as possible while letting the residents of North Andover and the Commonwealth know as much as we can.
