Cpl. Tonya Proctor Dies Unexpectedly At 57: Department

According to officials, a respected Maryland police woman unexpectedly died a few days before she was set to retire.

According to herobituary, Cpl. Tonya Renee Proctor, a 21-year veteran of the Prince George’s County Police Department, passed away at Southern Maryland Hospital late last month.

Her age was 57.

In a statement confirming Proctor’s passing, PGPD said the veteran officer had devoted her life to service since joining the force in 2004.

According to the department, Corporal Proctor started her patrol career in Bowie District II and had a variety of tasks during her time there, including the Joint Analysis Intelligence Center, the Fusion Center, and District II Investigations. In 2021, she relocated to the Internal Affairs Division, where she served until the end.

Proctor was an active member of FOP Lodge 89, where she served as the Recording Secretary in addition to her responsibilities on the force.

Proctor, who was born on February 21, 1968, graduated from Grantham University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. In 2002, she wed James Michael Proctor, a former firefighter.

According to hero biographies, the couple had four grandsons and two daughters.

According to the article, she was one of Coach’s largest clients and enjoyed bowling, fishing, shopping, and taking trips with her husband to visit her daughters and grandchildren. Her greatest reputation came from caring for her loved ones and getting her crab fix whenever she could.

Corporal Proctor’s funeral will take place in Southeast Washington, DC, on Friday, July 11. She will be laid to rest in Hyattsville’s National Harmony Memorial Park.
