Smick, Shawn “Sage”
According to Berks County District Attorney John T. Adams, the 30-year-old Shawn T. Smick, who uses the handle “Sage” on social media, was accused with sexually abusing minors by disseminating and possessing child pornography and engaging in unlawful use of a communications facility.
According to officials, detectives started looking into the matter in April after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children filed a complaint about files that were uploaded to KIK Messenger.
According to detectives, Smick was identified by the IP address associated with the uploads, and a search warrant issued at his previous home in Caernarvon Township turned up a cell phone that included many photos and films of child sexual abuse.
In a subsequent interview, Smick acknowledged having and disseminating the material, the DA’s office said.
On Monday, August 18, he turned himself in to Berks County detectives and was taken to the Central Processing Center of the Berks County Sheriff’s Office. According to officials, Magisterial District Judge Kauffman ordered his unsecured bond at $75,000.
Smick’s publicly accessible social media accounts indicate that he works as a software engineer.
