A man stormed into a church service and shattered two religious statues, Nassau County Police announced on Monday, June 16.

Aldo Hernandez and Corpus Christi Church at 155 Garfield Avenue in Mineola, where the statues were distroyed.

Aldo Hernandez, 26, of Colonial Avenue in Mineola, allegedly burst into Corpus Christi Church at 155 Garfield Avenue around 5:02 p.m. on Sunday, June 15. According to detectives, Hernandez became irate during the service and caused a scene before heading toward the altar.

That’s when police say he violently shoved two religious statues, toppling and breaking them. The damage was estimated at $10,000.

No one was hurt during the outburst, and Hernandez was arrested at the scene without further incident, authorities said.

He is charged with Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree and was scheduled for arraignment on Monday, June 16 at First District Court in Hempstead.
