According to officials, only three people survived the Sunday, August 10 fire on North Declarations Court in Waldorf, which forced all nine residents to leave their home and destroyed almost everything they owned.

The homeowner’s wife and three children, as well as the wife and child of another resident, are thought to be among the victims, according to investigators.

A fundraiser’s organizer, Mei Ni, said that her sister’s family lost six members in a single-home fire and that she lost everything in the conflagration, including her daughter, daughter-in-law, and four grandchildren.

According to her, any money raised will be deposited into her nephew’s bank account to assist with paying for daily necessities, food, clothing, prescription drugs, and medical bills.

GoFundMe QR code posters may be found at China Express, a family restaurant located on the 3200 block of Plaza Drive in Waldorf, according to neighbor Anesha Rhett Berry. The Crab Boat on Berry Road will also display the fundraiser website and accept Visa gift cards.

Berry reported that MISSION BBQ Waldorf provided food to first responders and that she and other neighbors were on the spot the following day, helping them as best we could.

She added that a neighbor in Charles County is setting up a smoke alarm collecting service for the neighborhood.

Berry added, “Every gesture of support, no matter how small, can help bring comfort to our neighbors who are experiencing an unimaginable loss.” Our Charles County family has shown us so much love and support, it has been unbelievable.

Writing, “Our hearts are heavy after the tragic fire in Waldorf on Sunday, August 10th, that claimed the lives of six family members,” Fontella Moody also called on others to lend a hand. Every gesture of kindness counts, and no present is too modest.

All of the alarms on the first and second floors were destroyed, but the Office of the State Fire Marshal reports that a disconnected smoke alarm without a battery was discovered in the basement.

The cause is still being looked into, although no indication of arson has been discovered.

Acting State Fire Marshal James Mowbray described the tragedy as an unfathomable loss for the community and stated that investigators must carefully look into every potential cause and contributing element of the fire.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating. Following exams, the names, ages, and reasons of death will be made public by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

You may find the GoFundMe page for the stricken family here.

“Four young kids and two adults will never be able to see their futures again,” the organizers stated. “While three survivors will face the horrible memories of their loved one, will never be the same for them again.”
