SNACKTIME, a band from Philadelphia, performed their maiden set at the famous Newport Folk Festival on the Quad Stage on Friday morning from 11:05 to 11:50 a.m., bringing their high-energy funk style to the stage.
The band, which characterizes its style as funk and roll with a lot of soul, seemed unaffected by the early performance time. Frontman Ben Stocker says the audience reacted well to their concert, even though they had to get up at 6:30 a.m. for the performance.
“Everyone who was sitting and could get up got up when we said to them to do so,” Stocker added. The entire time, they were swaying with us and flinging their hands up. And that was simply an amazing, lovely experience. particularly considering that many of them had never seen us before.
For Stocker, who went to the Newport Jazz Festival as a spectator more than 10 years ago after graduating from high school, the Newport Folk Festival appearance is a full circle occasion.
I only came to see the Newport Jazz Festival. And it was simply astounding. According to Stocker, it was the most exquisite event he had ever attended. Furthermore, I never thought I would be playing. I had never considered that.
Alongside Kenny Loggins, Big Freedia, and Remy Wolf, SNACKTIME also made an appearance at the festival. Additionally, the band will perform with Matthew Logan Vasquez on Friday night at Newport Blues Cafe.
Enough is the group’s most recent release, and it can be found on all streaming services. According to band member Nico Bryant, the group is presently in the studio recording their first full-length album.
For the entire month of August, Snacktime will tour the East Coast with well-known performers Fitz and The Tantrums. Notable locations on the tour include the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. on August 19, the Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York City on August 14, and the Citizens House of Blues Boston on August 18.
It’s a fantastic combination since we enjoy performing for audiences who may not be familiar with us. They may ask, “Who?” Regarding the forthcoming tour dates, Stocker stated, “And then we turn them into our best friends.”
The band incorporates pop and hip-hop elements into their funk basis, drawing inspiration from a variety of musical styles. “We take inspiration from pop, hip-hop, and all these other sounds, and we just turn them into something crazy,” Stocker said.
The voyage of Snacktime started in the summer of 2020 with free shows at Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia. Due to the success of these park performances, they sold over 900 tickets for their first headline club gig. As the trio started selling out its headline performances, opening for national touring acts, and playing at important music festivals, their success only grew.
Beyond Newport Folk, the band’s 2025 itinerary includes a number of well-known festival appearances. On September 19, they have announced gigs at Boston Calling, Roots Picnic, and the XPoNential Music Festival in Camden, New Jersey.
The Choir School of Newport County joined SNACKTIME for a portion of their concert during the Newport Folk Festival, giving their first appearance at the festival a more regional feel.
Stocker said he was especially looking forward to watching Kenny Loggins play for the remainder of their Newport Folk Festival weekend. He mentioned that the band will be staying for the whole festival weekend and that he really wanted to see Kenny Loggins.
SUNSHINE, the group’s most recent track, is what they refer to as their summer anthem for 2025 and goes well with their hectic tour schedule and year-round festival performances.
Through their Instagram account @snacktime and website snacktimephilly.com, the band keeps up an active online presence. Fans are urged to show their support by going to their live performances and streaming their songs on all the main platforms.
