For one Bergen County family, what began as an enjoyable family outing became something straight out of a Hollywood fantasy.

For fun, 35-year-old Amanda Williams of South Hackensack and her partner, Erick Golomb, decided to take their children to an open casting call for “Happy Gilmore 2”. The event was taking place at a Morristown hotel in August 2024.

Thousands of people arrived, including the family of four. The line was already encircling the building when they got there.

However, the enormous Sandler supporters had no intention of changing their minds.

The gathering was canceled before they had even entered. They were given a card by casting agents, who also informed them that they could still apply online.

For a section that asked for boys ages 2 to 6, Amanda did exactly that by completing a questionnaire and sending in three pictures of her 2-year-old son Bruce.

“Congratulations, your son has been selected for the role,” Williams stated in a text message I received three weeks later from an area code in New York City. We thought, “There’s no way this can be a scam.”

Williams did some research and found it to be authentic. Bruce was present.

Alpine Country Club served as the filming location for his debut scene. He only needed to leap into a pond after running over a golf course. However, Julie Bowen and Adam Sandler were also present, so it wasn’t just another day at the park.

According to Williams, the stands were full and there were 200 additional. After blow-drying their hair and dressing [Bruce and the other boys], they descended again to shoot.

Bruce was spot on.

He returned a week later, this time for a commercial scene that was also included in the movie at Bedminster’s Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club. After that, he spent the day with Julie Bowen at Newark Airport for another shot.

Williams claimed that she was amazing with the children.

Bruce, who is now 3.5, had a fantastic headshot and a little magic, but no agency.

“They chose him after I only submitted the questionnaire and three pictures,” Williams added. They were grabbed by something he had.

He is referred to as Mr. Personality by his great-grandmother. According to his mother, Bruce, who was just 2.5 years old, obeyed all instructions, remained motionless until the camera rolled, and never once ran in the wrong direction.

Williams stated that if he made a mistake, there was a backup. However, he possessed a quality that allowed him to withstand the strain.

You don’t know,” she added, referring to the way we were pacing back and forth. He could have made a complete mess.

Bruce, on the other hand, was chosen and is now a movie star.

Williams stated, “We felt like celebrities.” We were thrilled to be able to watch the movie for ten seconds. It was the most awesome thing ever.

And as soon as it was available on Netflix, the entire family watched it.

Watch for Bruce in “Happy Gilmore 2,” starring Adam Sandler, which will be available on Netflix on Friday, July 25.
