Support Pours In For Business Owner Who Lost Cafe In Fatal Airborne SUV Crash In Stony Point
After a horrific crash wrecked a deli owner’s shop in Rockland County, the community is banding together to help him recover.
According to authorities, a guy in his 20s was killed overnight when his SUV flew into the air and struck the top story of a building in Rockland County.
As previously reported by Daily Voice, the SUV went airborne and collided with the top floor of a two-story structure at 52 North Liberty Dr. in Stony Point just before one in the morning on Sunday, August 10.
Apartments are located above the Maguilar Deli Caf, which is located on the first floor of the building.
According to fire officials, the motorist lost control of his Toyota RAV4 at the intersection of Ten Eyck Street while traveling north on North Liberty Drive. The SUV flew across a parking lot, jumped a curb, struck the top level, and then fell to the ground, according to surveillance footage.
In addition to causing significant structural damage, the impact damaged the building’s chimney. There were about five people sleeping in the flats at the time, but none of them were hurt.
According to Stony Point Police, the driver, a 27-year-old Congers male who has not yet been identified, was declared dead at the site.
Friends of Maguilar owner Genser Marroquin have launched a GoFundMe account since the crash to aid in his recovery from losing his source of income.
According to the campaign, Marroquin, who launched Maguilar Deli Caf in early 2024, is a dedicated and industrious young businessman who made his vision a local favorite.
According to the fundraiser, Marroquin invested years’ worth of savings on the establishment, which soon gained a reputation for its delicious meals and friendly atmosphere. However, his primary source of income was cut off when the crash rendered the building unsafe and unusable.
“Every dollar counts, and any support whether it s a donation or simply sharing this page will help Genser get back on his feet,” the fundraising page said.
By 2:00 PM on Monday, August 11, the GoFundMe had raised $405 of the $22,000 that was needed.Contributions can be made by anyone interested by clicking this link.
