Teen Killed, Others Critical After Mustang Smashes Into Newtown Tree: Police
A 19-year-old woman was killed and two others were critically injured when a speeding Mustang carrying five people struck a tree in Connecticut early on Sunday morning, according to authorities.
The deadly collision is being looked into by Newtown police.
According to the Newtown Police Department, the collision occurred on Berkshire Road (Route 34), just west of Zoar Road, on August 24 just before 2:45 a.m.
According to investigators, a red 2017 Ford Mustang GT was traveling west when the driver lost control of a bend, causing the Mustang to fly off the road and collide with a huge tree.
Mary Cordero, a 19-year-old resident of Danbury, was among the five persons in the vehicle when it crashed. She was sitting in the back seat and was declared dead by emergency personnel.
Two of the four other passengers were reported as critically ill on Sunday afternoon, and they were taken to Danbury Hospital by ambulance.
Many responded to the crash, including Newtown Police, Danbury Fire Medic, Brookfield Ambulance, Bethel Ambulance (Stony Hill), Southbury Ambulance, Newtown Hook and Ladder, Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire, and Botsford Fire Rescue.
Anyone who may have seen the collision is being asked to get in touch with the Newtown Police Department. Investigations into the crash are still ongoing.
