The Big Amish Nick Kurtz Makes MLB History With 4 HR

As he continues his rise to fame, “The Big Amish” is establishing himself in the Big Leagues.

Kurtz, Nick

Nick Kurtz, a 22-year-old resident of Lancaster, “announced his presence with authority” over the weekend. His Athletics defeated the Houston Astros 15-3 on Friday night, making him the first rookie to ever hit four home runs in a single game.

Kurtz was in complete control of the game, going 6-for-6 and scoring 19 runs in all, matching a record set by Shawn Green over 20 years ago.

After being selected in the top five by the Athletics in 2024, Kurtz was called up to the team in April after spending less than two months in the minor leagues.

His bat made an impression at The Show quite quickly.

Before being selected out of Lancaster, which has a sizable Amish population, Kurtz spent two seasons playing collegiate ball at Penn State Berks, which gave rise to his odd moniker.

His celebration of his home run?

Despite not being Amish himself, he pays homage to his Pennsylvania ancestry by twirling his hands in a circular motion, as though churning butter.

In MLB history, Kurtz is the first rookie to hit four home runs in a game and only the 20th player to do it. This accomplishment has proven to be more challenging than throwing a perfect game (27 total).

The Athletic claims that Kurtz’s parents still reside in the Lancaster region and have been taking advantage of Oakland’s East Coast trips while visiting the A’s temporary home in Sacramento.

One of Kurtz’s bats was photographed and submitted to the Cooperstown Hall of Fame, where his achievement will be immortalized, and he was featured on SportsCenter after the historic, record-breaking performance.
