Thousands Lose Power In Baltimore As Violent Storms Slam Region

As the region is hit by extreme heat and severe storms, thousands of people in Maryland are once again without electricity.

The area is under a flood watch.

On Tuesday, July 1, just after 6 p.m., Baltimore Gas & Electric reported that 7,815 of its 1.34 million customers around the state were affected by roughly 300 active outages.

As the region prepared for the most recent bout of bad weather, the National Weather Service issued severe thunderstorm and flood advisories for portions of Maryland.

These counties were most affected by the storms, per BGE:

  • Baltimore City: 5,071 customers affected;
  • Baltimore: 1,911;
  • Anne Arundel: 473;
  • Howard: 138;
  • Harford: 111;
  • Montgomery: 64;
  • Carroll: 24;
  • Prince George’s: 23.

Additionally, Pepco reported that 2,700 customers were impacted by 86 outages.

The storm warnings will remain in force until Tuesday night at 9 p.m. BGE has not given an expected time of restoration.
