Truck Ripped Apart By Train In Virginia; Two Women Survive Wreckage: Sheriff

According to investigators, two women barely survived when an Amtrak train in Virginia crashed into their pickup truck, sending debris flying hundreds of feet.

According to the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office, the horrific accident occurred just before 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, close to the railroad crossing at Battle Lane and Catlett Road in the town of Catlett.

According to officials, a gray Ford F-350 pickup truck was turning into Battle Lane when it crossed in front of the Amtrak Crescent passenger train, which collided with the vehicle and tore it into three enormous pieces.

The train rolled on for another 1,700 feet or so before stopping.

After the collision, both of the women inside the truck were able to escape somehow.

According to deputies, they were brought to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. There were no injuries on board the train.

The sheriff’s office posted pictures of the severely damaged locomotive and the crushed frame of the Ford vehicle scattered along the rails.

According to the sheriff’s office, the Amtrak train had been going from Culpeper to Manassas.

“The Fauquier County Sheriff s Office is thankful that this dramatic collision did not result in a fatality and encourages drivers to always be alert when approaching railroad crossings,” the department stated in a statement.

Investigations into the crash are still ongoing.
