Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said in a statement Friday that the U.S. Marshals Service and New Jersey State Police had arrested Moses Taylor on Wednesday, July 2, in Elmwood Park.
According to the police, on Saturday, May 18, at approximately 4 p.m., Taylor shot a 33-year-old male in Paterson, close to Spring Street and Hospital Plaza. After receiving a report of gunfire, officers found a crime scene but no victims.
According to Valdes, the shooting victim was receiving treatment for a non-fatal gunshot wound at Hackensack University Medical Center when Paterson Police were summoned there the next day.
Taylor faces charges of unlawful possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, second-degree aggravated assault, and certain persons not to possess a firearm.
A motion to hold Taylor in custody pending trial has been filed by the prosecution. He might be sentenced to five to ten years in jail if found guilty, and under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act, he would need to serve a minimum of five years in prison for several of the offenses before being eligible for parole.
The inquiry is still under progress. Anyone with information is urged to get in touch with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office at 1-877-370-PCPO or [email protected], or the Paterson Police Shooting Investigation Unit at 973-321-1342.
