According to authorities, the driver of the Lamborghini in a well publicized street race with a Tesla Cybertruck in Virginia was given a 90-day jail sentence, the most of which was suspended.

Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano stated Friday, Aug. 1, that Carlos Montero, 38, of Sterling, received the sentence this week after being found guilty of reckless driving in the October 2024 collision on Leesburg Pike in Tysons.

In addition to fining Montero $1,000, $250 of which was suspended, and an additional $200 for a highway traffic infraction, the judge suspended 85 of the 90 days.

In March, Christian Camacho, Montero’s co-star and the Vienna-based Cybertruck driver, was also found guilty of reckless driving.

The date of his sentencing has been rescheduled for Thursday, August 28.

After being caught on camera and posted on X (previously Twitter), the race—or at least what appeared to be one—went viral. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, retweeted it, and it was viewed more than 150 million times.

Camacho’s Cybertruck and Montero’s Lamborghini arrive at a Leesburg Pike light in the video. Off-camera, a flagger can be heard shouting, “Are you guys ready?” when the two cars start their engines and take off.

As eager onlookers recorded from the curb, the Cybertruck sped forward and blew through the next light first.

The “flagger” testified during the trial, and both drivers were subsequently taken into custody and charged.

This careless action garnered a lot of attention online. Descano remarked, “I hope the consequences do as well.” Simply put, street racing has no place on the highways and roads that you and your family travel on, it is risky, and it needlessly endangers the lives of others.

Police detectives in Fairfax County were also drawn to the video that went viral of a “race” between a Lamborghini and a Tesla Cybertruck on a Virginia highway.
