: PA’s Bryan Kohberger Pulled Over In Traffic Stop Before Idaho Student Murders

Three months before to the brutal stabbing killings of four University of Idaho students, Bryan Kohberger was stopped in his now-famous white Hyundai Elantra, according to footage provided by the Latah County Sheriff’s Office.

On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, the Latah County Sheriff’s Office made public the bodycam footage of Bryan Kohberger’s traffic stop in Latah County, Idaho, on August 21, 2022.

A Routine Stop, With Chilling Context

On Sunday, August 21, 2022, at around 11:38 p.m., Deputy Darren Duke pulled over Kohberger after he was observed driving 42 mph in a 35 mph zone. Kohberger, a criminology student at Washington State University at the time, is shown on the bodycam transferring his insurance and license with composure.

You know it’s thirty-five? “What?” the deputy asks. After a matter-of-fact response, Kohberger is given a seat belt infraction worth about $10 rather than a speeding ticket.

When Kohberger asks if the ticket would affect his insurance, the deputy gives him his paperwork back and wishes him a nice night.

The Car Investigators Were Watching

One of the most important pieces of evidence was the white Elantra that was seen on surveillance close to the victims’ rented house in the weeks prior to the murders.

Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20, were fatally stabbed in their Moscow rented home on Nov. 13, 2022, less than three months after the halt.

As previously reported by Daily Voice, Kohberger was linked to the scene via cellphone pings and DNA from a knife sheath. Weeks later, he was taken into custody at his parents’ house in Pennsylvania.

From Routine Citation To Life Sentence

In order to avoid being executed, Kohlberger entered a guilty plea earlier this month to four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary. According to the Daily Voice at the time, on Wednesday, July 23, Judge Steven Hippler sentenced him to four consecutive life sentences without the possibility of release.

The recently made public video provides a chilling look at the man who would subsequently be accused by the court of committing a senseless act of evil.
