That’s what he says.

During a segment on “CNN News Central,” the 26-year-old outfielder, who is famed for his flipping catches in centerfield, embarrassed himself by losing control and violently face-planting, leaving his lip and chin bruised.

A day after the performance on Thursday, July 24, Cruz was able to chuckle at himself after the video of the botched flip went viral.

The day he unintentionally became a meme, he reflected in an Instagram Story, “I can’t not laugh every time,” “Just so you know, I’m perfectly fine with you laughing… Every time I watch, I can’t help but laugh. The noise is insane.

That sound would be his face striking the studio floor with a loud “thud,” as one of his shoes flew across the room and his microphone pack flew out of his pocket.

Cruz explained what went wrong on Instagram after the flip went horribly wrong.

The Bananas player claimed that after spending several days in Houston overseeing a baseball camp for hundreds of youngsters, he was barely getting four hours of sleep.

He then had time to take a shower before boarding an eastbound flight to New York, where they touched down on Thursday morning at around two in the morning.

When Cruz arrived at the studio, backstage producers asked him if he had any tricks he would like to perform during the live performance. The response was obvious: flip.

It was not as obvious as Cruz had first believed.

This is in spite of previous ESPN appearances in which he caught a football mid-flip on NFL Live.

“This is who I am. I constantly do flips. You know, while catching a baseball. Cruz remarked, “I didn’t even need to catch a ball on this flip.” “Throughout my life, I’ve performed tens of thousands of backflips. I had no cause to question my skills.

Cruz claimed that the next thing he knew, he was on the ground, bruised but not yet beaten, and that he was about to try again when he noticed blood streaming down his face.

His chin and mouth ended up requiring many stitches.

Cruz claimed that although his ego was injured, he was not physically harmed. He felt sorry for the CNN anchors, who were astonished for a few seconds before gathering themselves.

“I feel bad for the news anchors, because they just sat there,” he stated. “They’re not supposed to laugh, but oh my gosh, that’s so funny.”
