Westwood Middle Schooler Dies, District Confirms

Following the tragic loss of a 12-year-old girl this week, the community of Bergen County is coming together to support a distraught family.

According to school administrators, the youngster, a student at Westwood Regional Middle School, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025. A Meal Train site was created in the child’s memory.

More than $5,900 had been raised as of Saturday, July 26. Neighbors have volunteered to feed the family, with drop-off times set for 4 to 6 p.m.

We all share the sorrowful need to unite as a community in support of a family who recently moved to Westwood and lost their 12-year-old daughter, the organizers said. Please cook, order, or pray for the family if you feel moved to do so.

Superintendent Dr. Patrick J. McQueeney sent out the following message to families throughout the district:

I am deeply saddened to inform you of the unfortunate death of a Westwood Regional Middle School student. We are all touched by this devastating news, and we are committed to doing everything in our power to support and care for our students, staff, and families during this extremely trying time.

We understand that many students, staff, and families may require support, even if classes are not in session right now, Dr. McQueeney stated. Next week, the district plans to make counseling and mental health options accessible to anyone in our school community who might require them.

Mrs. Luisa Tamburri, the interim principal of Westwood Regional Middle School, signed the letter as well, urging parents to visit their kids:

Tell them they are never alone and that it’s acceptable to feel unhappy. Don’t be afraid to get in touch if you think your child might need further help.

The school community stated that it is still dedicated to helping families and kids start the grief and recovery process.
