Ashley Sumner, 39, acknowledged embezzling money when she was employed as an accountant at Holbrook’s Allstate Glass. According to the Norfolk County District Attorney, Sumner made illicit wire transfers, direct payments to herself, and credit card charges using her position.

According to Norfolk DA Michael Morrissey, the defendant was a dependable worker who had access to business credit cards and was in charge of processing payroll and paying bills. Her actions betrayed her employer’s confidence by embezzling business funds for her own personal purposes.

From 2020 to the beginning of 2023, Sumner was employed by the company. According to the police, she stole the funds between January 2021 until February 2023. Shortly before the investigation started, she quit.

Following a five-month investigation by Holbrook Police, corporate executives suspected financial misconduct. In August 2023, Sumner was taken into custody.

Last Friday, she entered a guilty plea to six offenses in Norfolk Superior Court, including money laundering, credit card abuse, and theft. According to the prosecutor, Judge Mark A. Hallal sentenced her to three and a half years in prison and three years of probation following her release.

The court will decide on restitution.
