Marcus Hook Fire Kills Man, Dog; $11K Raised For Widow

A widow in Pennsylvania is receiving support from her community after her husband and family dog perished in a terrible fire while she was at work.

In the fire, Serena Johnson lost both her husband and her dog.

On Monday morning, June 9, a house on Market Street in Marcus Hook was the scene of the Delaware County fire. Around 10:15 a.m., first responders arrived to discover thick smoke emanating from the back of the house.

According to fire officials, one person—later identified by friends as Obi—was dragged from a second-story window but did not make it out alive. Blue, the family’s dog, perished in the fire as well. For treatment, two more were brought to the hospital.

Even though the fire was declared extinguished more than half an hour later, the sadness endures.

Serena Johnson, the woman left behind in the tragedy, is currently receiving support thanks to a GoFundMe campaign started by friend Adam Gattuso.

According to the advertisement, Serena is well-known for her lively personality, amazing sense of humor, and concern for other people.

Johnson is recognized for her unwavering compassion and optimism. She welcomes hundreds of people every day at the gate of her job.

“With her smile, her unwaveringly positive attitude, and her kind words and well wishes, she has lifted up so many of us,” Gattuso added. Now is our chance to support her and her family during this terrible time.

As of Friday, June 20, more than $11,000 had been raised via the event. Donations can be made here on GoFundMe by those who are interested.

The state and municipal fire marshals are still looking into what caused the fire.
