Philomena Mistretta Sentenced For Parking Lot Attack
A lady from Long Island will serve years in prison for purposefully running over a 63-year-old woman with her minivan following a late-night altercation.
At Bellport’s Miracle Plaza parking lot on Montauk Highway, Philomena Mistretta acknowledged hitting a woman with her vehicle.
On Tuesday, July 22, Philomena Mistretta, 51, of Coram, entered a guilty plea to attempted murder and assault and was given a seven-year jail sentence in Suffolk County Court.
Mistretta acknowledged that on October 26, 2024, at around 3:30 a.m., she got into a fight with a woman at Miracle Plaza on Montauk Highway in Bellport while operating her Toyota Sienna.
Standing on the passenger side of the car was the victim. Mistretta got out of the van and fought with the woman as the debate got more heated, then got back in.
Prosecutors claim that she then turned the vehicle around, oriented it in the victim’s direction, and drove directly into her, dragging her a short way.
The sufferer had cuts on his cranium and was admitted to the hospital. Suffolk County Police apprehended Mistretta on the spot.
According to Raymond Tierney, the district attorney for Suffolk County, what started out as a dispute should never have turned violent. The severity of the defendant’s deliberate decision to hurt someone else is reflected in today’s sentencing.
Mistretta entered a guilty plea in June to multiple felonies, including second-degree attempted murder, assault, and attempted assault. She was sentenced to five years of post-release supervision in addition to prison.
