Friends are coming together to support a 27-year-old Pennsylvanian lady who is battling stage 4 colon cancer while preparing for her wedding and marathon.

Wrightsville resident Rylie Toomey was only a few weeks away from saying “I do” when her life abruptly changed. A GoFundMe started by family friend Amanda Dzengeleski claims that instead of getting married, she had major surgery, finished fertility preservation, and is currently getting ready for six months of chemotherapy.

On the fundraiser page, Dzengeleski said, “Words we never imagined having to write.”

She was in the midst of organizing the last aspects of her wedding and honeymoon in Hawaii and training for a marathon. She has changed all of her plans to concentrate on getting better, and she shouldn’t have to bear this burden alone.

Rylie has started going out of state every two weeks to a cancer center in New Jersey since receiving her diagnosis, which has significant emotional and financial repercussions.

The GoFundMe has raised almost $42,000 as of Friday, June 20, more than double its initial target of $20,000. Contributions will be used for:

Continuous medical care that insurance does not cover

  • Fertility treatments and egg storage
  • Travel and lodging for treatment in New Jersey
  • Time off work for her partner to support her recovery

The message says, “If you’ve ever met Rylie, you know she’s a literal ray of sunshine.”

She is the type of girl that makes everyone feel like family since she is always smiling, quick to laugh, and there for you when you need her. It is now our turn to be there for her.
