Yale Nurse, Dad Of 2, On Life Support After Brain Injury; Community Rallies To Help
After unexpectedly becoming ill and being taken to the emergency room with significant brain damage, a dedicated husband, father of two, and nurse at Yale New Haven Hospital is now fighting for his life. As his family supports him during this struggle, the community is also banding together to assist them.
Cindy Consiglio, Michael Consiglio, and their two kids, Ben and Olivia. Last month, Michael was brought to the hospital and put on life support.
According to a friend, Michael Consiglio was taken to the hospital on July 16 by his family and put on life support. Even though he had been feeling ill for a few days, it wasn’t until medics performed a thorough assessment that it became evident how bad his situation was.
“Mike is currently fighting for his life, with significant brain injuries, and the medical team is uncertain if he will ever wake up,” said Alison Venditti, a friend.
Since his admission, Consiglio’s family has been by his side, and his hospital coworkers are likewise in shock, according to Venditti, who started a GoFundMe page.
“Mike is the leader, the ‘rock’ of the (Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Yale New Haven Hospital), a person who always puts others first and is beloved by all who know him,” she said on the fundraising page. “His absence is profoundly felt, and the impact of this difficult time extends beyond his immediate family.”
The GoFundMe has raised over $42,000 as of Friday, August 1, and is getting close to its $50,000 target.
As the couple’s kids are ready to go for college this autumn, Venditti said Mike’s wife, Cindy, has taken a leave of absence from her job to be with him full-time.
“As hospital bills and college expenses loom, we want to ensure that Mike s children can focus on their futures without added financial stress,” she stated.
